Real People, Real Results - Janice's Story (Week 1)

Meet Janice, a businesswoman, wife and mother to 2 teenage children. Janice joined Ravissante's Real People, Real Result program on 15 February 2012. Janice is blessed with reasonably good skin, hence was never really consistent with her skin care regime. Juggling between being a home maker and a successful businesswoman is no easy feat either, as everything demands her fullest attention! Although she keeps a reasonably healthy lifestyle, does not smoke nor drink, being above 40, her skin faces much challenge for a naturally radiant complexion.

As we age, our skin's ability to reproduce and heal reduces significantly. At age 25, we start to notice that cuts and bruises takes much longer to heal. Staying young and healthy is an important fact of life that all of us would wish to posses, especially when we age. We want to stay timeless, and vibrant; and we can. With the right products, the right  treatment, the right knowledge, the right application, and lots of consistency; we most definitely can expect our skin to get better as we age.

Janice has mature skin, with fine lines on her forehead, nose and under her eyes. Her skin tone has aging signs and loss of firmness, and she has superficial dehydration. She has visible eye bags, dark eye circles, and laugh lines. She also has pigmentation spots on both sides of her face, and impurities such as whiteheads and blackheads on her nose.

Our desired results are to improve her skin tone, maintain oil, increase hydration, firming and delay aging tendencies. One of Janice's concerns are her pigmentation spots.

Uneven pigmentation of some sort affects most people, regardless of ethnic background or skin color. Skin may either appear lighter or darker than normal; there may be blotchy, uneven areas, patches of brown to gray discoloration or freckling. Skin pigmentation disorders occur because the body produces either too much or too little melanin.

Increased melanin production, also known as hyper-pigmentation, can be:
  •     Melasma describes the darkening of the skin.
  •     Chloasma describes skin discolorations caused by hormones. These hormonal changes are usually the result of pregnancy, birth control pills or estrogen replacement therapy.
  •     Solar lentigo, also known as "liver spots" or "senile freckles" refers to darkened spots on the skin caused by aging and the sun. These spots are quite common in adults with a long history of unprotected sun exposure.
Aside from sun exposure and hormones, hyper-pigmentation can be caused by skin damage, such as remnants of blemishes, wounds or rashes. This is especially true for those with darker skin tones.

To combat her pigmentation, it is important for us to first address the underlying issues of her skin. Our aim is to first rebuild her skin tissues, to provide a gradual overall rejuvenation to enhance the quality of her skin and increase its longevity. Ravissante recommends that she uses products from Ella Bache's Eternity range. Rich in active Olive and Myrtle, Ella Bache's Eternity products combat environmental stresses and biological aging, thereby prolongs cell longevity. It encourages production of soluble collagen and fibroblast so skin is firmer, boosts surface micro-circulation and diminish redness from couperose (small, dilated blood capillaries on the cheeks, nose and sometimes chin), and replenishes skin moisture levels.

For her Home Care, Ravissante recommends Ella Bache Cocoon Cleansing Milk and Austral Gel Toner as her cleansers and toners. As for her day cream, we recommend Ella Bache Eternal Day Cream, a triple action firming cream with strong rejuvenating properties to reduce wrinkle depth, boost collagen and fibroblast production to lift and replenish skin. It also contains Redwood (Sequoia) Cells to increase skin's defense proteins (HSP) to fight environmental pollution and radiation, and Glycofilm to act as a second skin and protect from UVA and UVB rays.

Ella Bache also has an Eternal Day Fluid. The difference between a cream and a fluid is in its composition of oil and water. A cream has more oil to water, and a fluid has more water. If you have normal to dry skin, we recommend that you use the cream; because it would help your skin to maintain the essential oils that it needs. If you have oily skin, we recommend that you use the fluid, because it is lighter and would not put in too much oil on your face. Too much oil would result in generation of pimples, pustules and other unwanted impurities. Ravissante recommends the cream and not the fluid because Janice has normal to dry skin.

As for her night cream, Ravissante recommends Ella Bache Eternal Night Cream. Among many other things, Ella Bache Eternal Night Cream contains Royal Jelly to help build resistance and protect skin against deficiencies which could speed up aging; and powerful antioxidants from Vitamin E to protect skin from free radicals. Ravissante also recommends Ella Bache Eternal Restructuring Eye Gel, a comforting and repairing melting gel that rebuilds deep down. This eye gel would help the skin under her eyes in advanced line correction, intensive firming and soothing puffiness.

As for her Ravissante professional facial treatment, we recommend Ravisssante Eternal Facial (120 minutes, RM320). Recommended for mature, menopausal skin, this treatment provides an overall lifting effect that renews, builds and reshapes skin.

Her results? Absolutely Ravissante.

Just after the 1st treatment, Janice's laugh lines and dark eye circles have reduced, her pigmentation slightly discolored and her complexion glows with radiance. Her cheeks are also firmer and plumped.

Thank you Ms Janice for participating in Ravissante's Real People, Real Results. We hope you will consistently and diligently use your home care products twice daily; morning and night. And we look forward to seeing you on your next Ravissante facial treatment appointment :)
