The Basics of Skin Care

Your skin is a reflection of your age, your lifestyle and your well-being.

I remember this joke I heard, about young man who was on a quest to find out the secrets to longevity; and went to an old folks home and asked the inmates, aged 80, 90, 95 “what is the secrets to living a long life”. Everyone he met told him to eat right, sleep well.. etc. Then he saw the oldest looking man in the room. When he interviewed him; the old man said he basically never took care of himself at all, and trashed his body to the very maximum, so this young man was very curious because the old man’s advise goes against everyone else in the room. And then the young man asked “How old are you?” The old man answered “I’m 24 years old!”

Your skin is the largest organ of the body, and is the first organ to show signs of aging if you are detailed enough to notice. We get a new layer of epidermis every 25-45 days. As we age, our cells ability to multiply and slows down. It is especially noticeable in the face; hence the importance of facials and skincare in this multi billion industry of anti aging. Signs of skin dehydration start as early as 25! So the younger you start, the better! Remember, prevention is always better than cure ;)

The secret to having fantastic looking skin; as with everything else you want right in your life; is CONSISTENCY. The right products, with the right treatment, and the right knowledge; and the right application – VOILA! Skin good enough to eat!

Every skin is unique; like every individual. We can group them together, but ultimately they are different and uniquely special because they absorb nutrients differently and they react differently to different treatments – some show results faster, some slower. The aim of applying skin care is to balance the pH level, water and oil of skin so that we continue to stay youthful, look beautiful and vibrant.

Have you asked yourself, "How do I want to look when I am 70?" How many of you want to look younger than your biological age? How many of you feel wonderful when you are complimented on how well you look; or how young you look?

Jane Fonda looks awfully amazing at 70!!! And I know it definitely did not happen by chance ;)

To look ravishingly beautiful at 70, I'd suggest you start taking good care of your skin! To do that, we have Home Care and Salon Care. You’re probably asking, what is the difference?

Home Care are products that you use at home. Basics would be Cleanser, Toner and Moisturiser. Women who use makeup; makeup removers are a must! Additional products would be Sunblock, Scrubs, Masks and Serums. Do note that a DAY TIME moisturiser is different from a NIGHT TIME moisturiser. Day time moisturisers work to protect the skin. Night time moisturisers work to nourish, replenish and repair the skin. Its best if you have and use both!

Salon Care use products that are more potent, to address additional needs like deep cleansing, exfoliation, removing impurities such as black heads/whiteheads, relaxing the skin to absorb additional nutrients, a relaxing massage to calm your senses, and improving blood circulation. I know of some people who buy salon care products for daily use. Not recommended because you only come for facials, intensively, once a week! Regularly, once a month! Salon Care products are more concentrated, hence meant for professional use only.

At Ravissante The Beauty Shop, we have different facials to cater to different needs using specific Ella Bache products.

If you are unsure of which product is right for you, just ask :) Come walk into Ravissante and ask for a free skin consultation. Let us help you understand your skin better and tailor an Ella Bache skin care program uniquely for you.

So back to the question; How do you want to look like when you are 70 years of age? And what are you doing to get the results that you want?

You can make a difference. You can. Just remember, as with all other things in life, beauty, is a matter of choice, not chance.
