8 Steps to Beautiful Skin
Having a good skin regiment would do wonders for our skin. Just
follow these 8 steps below using good quality skin care products with diligence
and consistency (preferably twice a day unless stated) and you’ll be sure to
keep your skin healthy and beautiful for a lifetime!
1.
Makeup
Remover – NEVER ever go to bed with
your makeup still on. Do cleanser all traces of makeup before falling
asleep. Makeup, if not removed, will clog up your pores, making you prone to
pimples and impurities.
A good makeup remover will dissolve even
the most stubborn traces. Even if you do not use makeup, it is best to use a
makeup remover to start of your cleansing regime. This ensures that your skin
gets that detailed cleansing needed from environmental impurities that you
encounter throughout the day.
2.
Cleanser –
A good cleanser will not strip off your skin of its natural oils. Find a gentle
cleanser that would eliminate deeply concealed impurities that suffocate skin.
Preferably, look for soap free cleansers
because soap contains harsh chemicals which remove the essential oils present
in our skin layer and thus make it dry and rough.
3.
Scrub
– Every once or twice a week, exfoliate your skin. Regular exfoliation ensures
cell turnover takes place to keep your skin cell cycle speedy and healthy.
Choose scrubs that have fine beads to provide a delicate thorough exfoliation.
A good scrub can refine skin grains, lightens pigmentation and scars, and
prepares the skin in order to optimize the action of daily skin care.
4.
Toner
– What toning actually does is it puts your skin pH back to its normal range
and it closes the pores to your skin. A good toner will invigorate your skin’s
cells, leaving it fresh and ready to receive the best of skin care under the
best conditions.
5.
Mask
- A mask is an intense treatment for the skin. It has higher concentration of
ingredients compared to a facial moisturizer or serum. There are different
masks for different effects. Masks can be used once or twice a week.
6.
Serum
- Serums act as specialists. They are formulated to address specific skin
concerns such as wrinkles, firming, age spots and discolorations. Serums can
address needs that aren’t covered by a moisturizer.
The structure of the molecules in a serum
is generally smaller than that of a moisturizer, which allows the serum to
penetrate deeper than a regular moisturizer. Serums can deliver vitamins, retinol
and antioxidants to the skin to tackle any beauty issue.
7.
Moisturize
– If there is one product that your skin cannot live without, it is definitely
the moisturizer. Moisturizing should be one of your top priorities, helping to
keep your skin supple, healthy and younger looking.
Choose a moisturizer that is suitable for
your skin type. If your skin is normal
to dry, choose a cream based moisturizer. If your skin is combination to oily, choose a fluid based
moisturizer. Also note that a day moisturizer could be different from a
night moisturizer. Essentially, day
moisturizers work to protect skin; while night moisturizers work to restore and
nourish.
8.
Sun Block
– Also thanks to our Malaysian weather, a sun block is highly essential to
protect skin from harmful Ultraviolet (UV) rays of the sun. A sun block (or
sunscreen) is usually labeled with an SPF (sun protection factor) rating. In
general, the higher the SPF the more protected you are from UV rays.
Choose your SPF by
how long you stay out in the sun. The factor used is 10 for fair and sensitive
skin, 15 for normal skin, and 20 for dark skin. For instance if a product has a
rating of SPF 15, and you have dark skin; calculate the hours your are
protected from the sun by multiplying the SPF by the factor, and then dividing
it by 60.
Hence, (15 x 20) = 5 hours of sun protection.
