Prevent crime...best be safe than sorry!

I received this on Facebook and I thought that it'll be good information to share, since there is an influx in crime these days. Petty thiefs eyeing your ATM, hand bag snatchers, attempted robbery and kidnapping... just a few days ago I read about a man who was gunned down while waiting in his car outside his son's primary school. Crime in Selangor is on the rise and maybe thanks to the internet and social media, we are getting first hand accounts on these crimes.

The latest story happened in Puchong. Click here for article from The Star Newspaper, entitled "Another woman attached in car park" This robber actually pinned her down and told her not the be stupid when she fought back.

In any event, I would encourage everyone to be alert, and be mindful of your surroundings. It could have happened to anyone, so best be safe than sorry. By the way, I do know of an insurance for your handbag  by Chartis, called Personal Guard (and yes, I am insured, thank you). If you require more information, I have a friend who could assist you on that. Leave me a message, and I'd get him to contact you.

Snatch thiefs are pretty good at breaking your passenger window and grabbing your handbag that you've left on the passenger seat. PLEASE DO NOT leave your handbags on the passenger seat. It only takes 2-4 seconds to get the job done. Dont believe me? Watch this video taken by an in-car surveillance camera taken last year. It happened to a friend of mine at the traffic lights in front of Centerpoint, Bandar Utama, too.

In the mean time, here's information on Anti Carjacking 101. Thanks PNP, Analyn Perez and GMA News.TV for coming up with this! Please do share this.. it could save someone's life :)

When do carjackers operate: Most cases occur during early morning or late evening.

Bump and rob

The carjacker bumps the victim's vehicle from behind in traffic. When you get out to check the damage and exchange information, someone drives off with your car!

If you are bumped by another car;
1. Look around before you get out.
2. Make sure there are other cars around. Anything can happen if you are on a deserted road. Best be safe than sorry.
3. Check out that the car that rear-ended you, and who is in it.
4. Memorize or better yet, write down the car's plate number and description.
5. Signal the other car to follow you, and drive to the nearest police station, or to a well lit area.
6. If you do get out of the car, take your car keys, purse and wallet with you and stay alert.

If your car is being carjacked:
1. Give up your car. Dont argue. YOUR LIFE IS WORTH MORE THAN A CAR!!!
2. Get away from the area as quickly as possible.
3. Try to remember what the carjacker looked like -sex, race, age, hair, eye color, special features and clothes.
4. Report the crime immediately to the police.

Where do car-nappers operate? Snatch thiefs too!
1. Intersections
2. Stop lights or signs
3. Parking lots of groceries/shopping malls
4. ATMs
5. Residential driveways
6. Highway exits and entry ramps
7. Any place where drivers slow down or stop
