Day 32/365 - Is Health truly Wealth to you?

We, humans, are such ignorant creatures. We so often take for granted all we have and seek all the things we do not have. Are we naturally programmed this way?

Unless there is loss, we do not appreciate what is here. It goes with everything. Physical, emotional, mental and financial. Then we turn spiritual because all others are lost.

I have met many people who take their health for granted. Talk is easy. Everyone says "Health is wealth". Rarely do people consistently take an effort to diligently apply skin care to protect themselves from enviromemtal stressors, drink sufficient water, have adequate sleep, eat well, stay active both physically and mentally, breathe optimally and manage their energy. To each their own. Maybe it is just not in our priorities until something drastic happens. By that time, it might be much harder to correct.

You see, cancer does not develop overnight. It is a long process. There are some articles describing 7 Stages of Cancer Growth which I find interesting. To summarize, the 7 stages are:

Stage 1 - Enervation
Stage 2 - Intoxication
Stage 3 - Irritation
Stage 4 - Inflamation
Stage 5 - Ulceration
Stage 6 - Cancer Formation
Stage 7 - Cancer Growth

This process is through enduring prolonged periods of ignoring stressors; especially the cause of physical, mental and emotional stressors.

Our current buzzword of the day, Mindfulness, is not new. In fact, the Buddha has taught it 2500 years ago. Life then is probably different from life now; but considering how far we have come from those days of ambiguity, shouldn't we be happier? The Buddha spoke about 4 things that everyone goes through and cannot escape from. Birth, Death, Sickness and Aging.

2500 years on, we can choose how and when we want to give birth and in some places, legally, how and when to die. Life expectancy today is at 60-80. Back during the Buddha's time, life expectancy at birth was approximately 26. Today we have so many options and advancement in technology to keep sickness and deterioration at bay. Age is getting closer and closer to just being a mere number. The need to instill good habits and make important choices are more crucial than ever.

We all know that in order to achieve what we want in life, we have to be disciplined. Make the necessary small decision to do the right things, regardless how we feel. Choose to eat well, do an intermittent fast, sleep and drink sufficient clear water. Simple things, yet we are swamped today by "busy-ness". We ignore what our body screams at us and then grieve when sickness comes.
