Benefits of Cantaloupe

An interesting article popped up on my Facebook today, stating the many benefits of Cantaloupe. The post was by a Fan Page called "Life Love Fruit"; created to "help inspire and educate the population on healthy eating habits, with heavy emphasis on consumption of fruits & vegetables to help raise the inner energy of our mind, body & soul". Live Love Fruit was created to help spread the message on the importance of regular consumption of fruits and vegetables.

Yummy yummy melon! Over in Malaysia, it is more common to find Honey Dew, another variation of yummy melons. Did you knw that at Japan, there is a KitKat in this melon flavour? I stumbled upon it when I was there the last time! And I only found it at Hokkaido!


Who knew that melons are not only delicious, its nutritious as well! Below are some of the health benefits of Cantaloupe:

1. Folate - healthy growth and maintenance of cells within the body and for the prevention of anemia

2. Carotenoids - decrease risk for the development of cardiovascular diseases and certain types of cancer. Important for maintaining good vision.

3. Vitamin C - plays an important role in the growth and repair of tissues within the body. It also helps in forming collagen, an important protein needed for making skin tissues, tendons, ligaments and blood vessels. Vitamin C is also an anti-oxidant, a type of nutrient that blocks the action of free radicals which lead to early aging.

4. Potassium - Potassium is an electrolyte, a mineral that conducts electricity within the body together with sodium, calcium and magnesium. Potassium plays a very important role in muscle and heart contraction. It is also essential for the normal function of the gastrointestinal tract.
