Stop fearing the unknown
I read somewhere that humans are mostly risk takers. What we are adverse to is not risk, but ambiguity.
I decided to volunteer for Bodhi Meditation's Health and Happiness Retreat this week. I am thankful because it allowed me to connect with many people. I spent my morning talking to a man with heart problems. There are stroke survivors, someone battling Parkinson's and many cancer survivors in this retreat.
They gave me insights into how it feels to be plagued by the unknown, and fears of how the body will fail, shut down or rebel when they least expect it. Our body actually show signs; like a kid, requiring attention. The more we ignore and the less we pay attention to it, the more severe "sickness" develops.
We chat about how little compassion and empathy medical providers give when diagnosing patients with severe symptoms of sickness. Unable to clearly explain the cause or provide a cure, this leaves many with much fear and negativity.
It made me contemplate this emotion a bit more. Fear. Some schools of thought deem it the granddaddy of all negative emotions. I like to simply just call it an emotion, and its highly dependent on one's perspective whether it is positive or negative. Can't Fear be a positive emotion? It does stop us from doing silly/stupid things. Unfortunately, we were never truly conditioned to deal with fear positively.
I gathered that most of the time, we let our unwarranted fears of ambiguity/unknown get the best of us. The fight or flight syndrome has evolved to ignorance and non-action. Is it easier to ignore and cast a blind hope for things go away? This delusion leaves us powerless and filled with negativity.
Can we empower ourselves to take more control of our lives, our thoughts and actions? Lessen the ambiguity by taking corrective actions in gaining knowledge and proper positive practices?
I say we can. Just be brave to overcome fear and cultivate healthy positive habits daily. That'll move us one step closer to discovering the best version of ourselves. Simply by being better than yesterday.
Instead of asking why, ask why not? 😊 Best to bask in positivity. Have gratitude for all we have so that it is easier to accept when whatever should happen, happens. Many things are beyond our control anyway. Good to always do our best, observe, change what we can change, constantly improve and let go of negativity. Our body, mind and soul will thank us for it.
May we all be well and happy.
