Ignite the fire of change
Don't think I am writing this for you. All these are for me.. for people like me.. people who want to move forward, to change and discover the best version of themselves. This has nothing to do with you... especially if you are happy where you are. I know I am not.
Nu Skin held a seminar yesterday, recognizing leaders, sharing updates and invited Derrick Tia, USD 1 Million Dollar Circle and 1year Team Elite from Singapore to come share his story.
He came from humble beginnings. His parents have him a path, which is to study hard, go to Universty (but fund himself by working or scholarship because they cannot afford to send him), get a good job and get a beautiful wife. The last one he added on his own, but I agree that it's a good standard to uphold. He married his beautiful wife and has two beautiful children.
He started as a technical engineer, and spent 15 years with software giant Microsoft. To spend 15 years in one company, working from cost centre (technical/operations) and jumping to better prospects in the profit centre (sales) is definitely an achievement. I say that because I, too, was once in an MNC doing IT Distribution sales, and I fairly understand the comforts and challenges one has in this industry.
Every time a MDC comes and share his/her story, it is testimony that these are real people, with real stories. Regular ordinary people, just like you and me, who went through life, firstly being comfortable, before it becomes uncomfortable. For Derrick, it took a few major incidences that moved him before he considered Nu Skin business.
The first, was during a drinking session he had with his boss after entertaining clients. His boss, a mid-age reputable management man, slightly drunk, confided in Derrick that he felt distant from his family. After years of chasing wealth and career progression, his boss had a gap with the people he love, and that night he even cried. In Derrick's own words, he felt cold from his head to his feet after hearing that.
The second incident was when he went home one day from work. After a long day in the office, one looks forward to having hugs from his children, to wash all the unhappiness or toxicity away. As he reached home, opened the door, he saw his son. Their eyes met, and his son just looked at him and went on his way. "My son didn't recognise me. Do you know how that feels? To come home and your son doesn't recognise you?"
His wife started using NuSkin and was always telling him about it. He shunned the idea because he had a misconception of Multi Level Marketing, as many other people often do because of a last experience, who or pride to not understand what is unknown to them. Yes, I have that too. "Direct selling is for people who failed in life, cant get a decent job..etc". There was one night he told his wife, "You are being brainwashed by these MLM people!". She retorted "If they are brainwashing me to become a millionaire, why not? You're also being brainwashed by your boss! You're working so hard for him, would you have a chance to become a millionaire?" That struck him to some sense.
Derrick took approximately 6 years actively in NuSkin business to achieve his recognition as USD1MDC in 2015. While he was being recognized at the Nu Skin convention, there were many many others being recognized with him. Nu Skin to date has 1250 Millionaires.
My key takeaway from this is that success is granted to those who date dream and take necessary action. To think about it is one thing, to do it is another crucial part. Many people want the millionaire dream, but that's all that do. They dream about it without putting forth the necessary consistent daily disciplined actions to achieve what they desire. Listening to a story is easy. Being inspired and not doing anything is easy. Equally easy is making a decision to want to change. The challenging part is to get serious. To go forth and get what you want. To take action.
My key takeaway? Take action now.
